A 17-year-old girl, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), allegedly died by suicide in New Delhi after failing to pass the national entrance exam for admission to top engineering colleges. The incident occurred in the Okhla main market area, and the Delhi Police reported the case on Saturday.
The Class 12 student left a suicide note, indicating that she struggled with study pressure and felt she did not meet expectations. In her note, she requested her parents to forgive her for not succeeding in the JEE. Authorities confirmed that the note provided insight into her emotional state and the pressures she faced as a student preparing for a highly competitive examination.
According to the police report, a call was received at 11:25 AM about the girl jumping from the roof of a seven-story building. Upon arrival, police found her at the scene and initiated an investigation. The girl had been preparing for the JEE after clearing her 12th grade, making the pressure to succeed in the examination even more intense.
Local residents expressed shock at the incident, highlighting that the student had appeared stressed in the weeks leading up to her death. They noted that academic pressure among students has become a growing concern in the community. This incident has prompted discussions among parents and educators regarding the mental health of students and the challenges they face during exam preparation.
The Delhi Police are currently conducting an investigation under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). They are gathering further evidence and statements from friends and family to understand the circumstances surrounding her death.
